ARE GUITAR X-TENDER KEYS AVAILABLE IN LEFT HAND MODELS?
Yes!! And at no extra charge.
What is the difference between the GT1 and GT2 ?
The GT1 is a converted Grover peg that is mainly used on acoustic instruments along with Les Pauls. The GT2 is a converted Schaller M6L mini which we recommend for use in electric guitars.
String Bender
Do I need to route out my guitar to mount the Hipshot String Bending System?
No! You do not route or remove wood to attach your Hipshot to your guitar. The unit attaches to your guitar with your strap button screw. Therefore you do not even have to drill additional holes in your guitar. (We do provide you with two additional small screws which you can use at your discretion to help secure the unit to your instrument). The Hipshot is also felt lined so that it will not scratch the finish of your guitar.
How does the Hipshot B-Bender Hip lever work ?
The hip lever works very similar to a pedal steel player's knee lever. Our patented hip lever (which is easily removable) allows you to bend your B string up to C sharp by a slight movement of your guitar against your hip leaving your hands free to play! It takes less than 1 lb. of pressure to activate the lever and total travel of the hip lever is about 1 inch. With a little practice you will be b-bending with the best of them, and using it at your gigs.
Does the Hipshot fit on other guitars besides the Tele ?
Yes! The Hipshot will also fit on Starts and Strat style guitars, Les Pauls and most other electric guitars. There may be some minor bridge modifications. We can usually do these modifications for you. Just send us your bridge (not your whole guitar). Turn around time is usually 3 to 5 days, but please call first to receive a Return Authorization number.
How does the Palm Lever work?
The Palm Lever usually attaches to the third or G string. As your push the lever down with your palm, the lever automatically bends your G string up to G sharp or A (depending on how you want to tune it). If you tune the lever to G sharp, you have the same configuration as the A and B pedals of a pedal steel guitar (i.e. if you hold an E chord and operate the Palm and Hip Levers together you get an A chord or the 4 chord). If you tune the Palm Lever to an A note then you perform the same types of licks you would with the B-bender. The Palm Lever also swivels out of the way when it is not in use, so that it will not interfere with your right hand muting techniques.
How does the Toggle Tuner work ?
The Toggle Tuner is an attachment to the Hipshot String Bending System which allows you to perform on-the-fly retuning. The Toggle Turner can be mounted to your 6th string (tuning your Low E to D), 5th string (tuning your A to G) and your 1st string (tuning your high E to D). Retuning these strings puts you into Open G tuning! Some songs that have been performed in this tuning were "Honky Tonk Woman" by the Stones and "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills & Nash. Open tuning and altered tunings are great for slide, blues and many other styles. Simply reach back with your right hand and give the toggle tuning lever a quick flick to retune for instant altered tunings. You can see how these additional attachments make the Hipshot an extremely versatile tool.
Can I add attachments to my Hipshot ?
Yes! Simply send us the unit and we can add additional attachments. Please call first for a Return Authorization number.
Is it hard to learn B-bender guitar ?
Not at all! We find that players become accustomed to using the Hipshot Hip lever in just a few hours of practice. We have many players using the hipshot on recordings, live gigs and on National Tours. Will Ray of the Hellecasters recorded an excellent b-bending teaching video call "Will Ray's B-Bending Mania" which Hipshot Products offers. This will give you an excellent jump start and have you playing "twang" guitar in a few hours.
Is it hard to install the HipShot on my guitar?
Usually installation is easy and straight forward and can be done by the musicians themselves. Installation involves removing the strap button screw, positioning the felt lined Hipshot on the guitar and reinstalling a new strap button screw which we provide. The new strap button screw is the same diameter as your old screw, however, it is slightly longer to insure secure fit. Then you simply restring the guitar and play. If bridge work is necessary it is usually minor and does not detract from the value of your guitar. In fact the Hipshot installs so easily that you can switch it from one guitar to another between gigs.
Bass Bridges
How do I determine the string spacing of my bass bridge ?
Here is what you need to do. Measure from the center of your highest string to the center of your lowest string. Lets say it is 3.75 inches on a 6 string. You will need to divide this number by the number of spaces between each string. In this case there are 5 spaces. So if the string spread is 3.75, we divide that by 5 and we end up with a string to string spacing of .750.
What is the difference between Style 'A' bridges, Style 'B' bridges and Bent Plate Bridges?

A Style Bridges
What is the difference between bridges made out of aluminum or brass ?
Aluminum bridges are lighter in weight so if you are concerned about your instruments over all weight than aluminum is the way to go. Aluminum tends to deliver more mids and highs while brass accentuates the low end tones.
Are Hipshot Bridges available in string through the body as well as top load?
Yes, all of our A style bass bridges are string thru, please specify when ordering vintage or B style bass bridges so we can accommodate your requirements.
Are there any advantages to through the body string loading?
What are the advantages of top load?
Besides being much handier to change strings through the top load slot, I believe you get less wear and tear on your strings. As you pass a string through the hole in back end of your bridge you cannot help but rub the string winding against the edge of the bridge. If the string is rubbed hard enough, you could deform one side causing damage (similar to the way you would rub scissors against a ribbon to curl it). A deformed string may not orbit correctly, causing false overtones. Also you avoid scratching the face of your instrument due dragging the string ball against the finish.

Extender Key Installation Instructions
Which extender do I need for my Fender Mike Dirnt Signature
Bass ?
You will need the BT2 part # 20200.
Which extender key will I need for my Rickenbacker bass ? We recommend using the M4. You will most likely look at the M4 and realize that it is does not match up with the original tuning machines. The Rickenbacker headstock is a 2+2 configuration, if you were to install the correct looking tuner (BT1), there would not be enough room for your extender to swing(it will run into the G string tuning machine). The M4 will fit the headstock hole and mounts with one mounting screw. In the future, if you would like to sell your instrument, the existing tuner will cover up the new mounting hole that you have drilled.
WHAT IS THE RANGE OF THE BASS X-TENDER KEY?
Normally the bass x-tender keys are tuned to switch between E and D. However, they should easily reach low C and in many cases low B.
SHOULD I USE A HEAVIER E STRING WITH THE BASS X-TENDER KEY?
It is not necessary. Usually a .105 works well. The heavier the string, the stiffer it will be when you flip to your lower note. But, usually .105 works just fine.
WHEN I FLIP BACK TO "E" FROM THE LOWER NOTE I NOTICE IT COMES BACK SHARP - IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY X-TENDER KEY?
No! Your x-tender key is fine, you need to follow this tuning procedure; First tune the E note. With the thumb lever in the up position (E) tune your string up to E. Always tune from flat up to pitch. Now give your thumb lever a quick flick down and up. Check your E note with your electric tuner to see if it came back sharp. If it did, see how sharp it came back. Lets say for example it came back 10 cents sharp. Drop your E string with your tuner down and then bring it back leaving it 10 cents flat of E. Again, give your thumb lever a quick flick down and up. Your E string should pop sharp 10 cents, leaving it exactly on E. Now, flick your lever to the down position and check your lower note. Lets say for example you are tuning the lower note to D. If the note is out of tune, flick the lever back up to the E position, adjust the fine tuning screw either by rotating it counter clockwise to sharpen the lower note, or clockwise to flatten the lower note. Now, flick the thumb lever to the down position and check the low D. If the low D is still out of tune, repeat the procedure by flicking the lever back to E, readjust the fine tuning screw and flick the lever down to D to recheck. When you get your low D in tune, flip the lever up to E, check your E and there you are! Here is the reason behind this tuning procedure: There is always friction between the string and the bone nut. Therefore, the fret board side of your string will be slightly looser than the peg head side of the string. When you use the x-tender key for the first time after tuning, you equalize the difference in string tension causing the note to pop sharp. You must use the x-tender key one time to equalize these tensions after tuning. That's why you leave it slightly flat when you tune your E. And that is why you must flip down to check your D after tuning with the fine tuner. If you are still confused, call us at 607-532-9404 and have your bass and electric tuner in front of you. We have the Xtender Key Tuning procedure published on our web site. You may want to check them out.
WHICH MODEL X-TENDER KEY WILL FIT MY FENDER MEXICAN BASS?
We would recommend the BT1. It is not an exact match, but very close (the clover key is slightly small). It fits on the headstock and works quite well (you will notice that the Hipshot key actually tunes smoother). You may consider replacing the other three tuners with a set of 3 Hipshot Bass Machine Heads model HB1.
I SEE ON YOUR ORDER FORM BT2 or HB2 - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
BT2 (cat. #20200c) refers to the X-tender key only (the c refers to chrome, b - black, and g-gold). Model HB2 (cat. #20210) refers to a set of Hipshot Bass Machine Heads without an X-tender.
I HAVE A BASS X-TENDER KEY ON MY INSTRUMENT. I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THE OTHER THREE TUNERS WITH HIPSHOT MACHINE HEADS. DO I HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE SET, OR CAN I BUY JUST THREE?
You do not have to buy the whole set. We will supply you with however many machine heads you require.
ARE BASS X-TENDER KEYS AVAILABLE IN LEFT HAND MODELS?
Yes!! And at no extra charge.
DO YOU HAVE AN X-TENDER KEY MODEL THAT MATCHES YOUR ULTRALITE TUNERS ?
Yes we do. The model numbers are HE6Y for Y key and HE6C for clover key. Please specify color (chrome, black or gold).
WHICH MODEL FITS THE FENDER PRECISION DELUXE (AMERICAN MADE)?
The BT4S is the model X-tender you require. It has a cast button, which is thicker in the middle than on the edges.
WHICH MODEL FITS THE FENDER PRECISION AMERICAN MADE?
The BT4 is the model you require. It has a flat stamped clover button.
WHICH MODEL FITS MY MUSIC MAN?
The BT1 is the model you require.
I WOULD LIKE TO USE AN X-TENDER KEY ON THE LOW B OF MY 5 STRING TO SWITCH FROM B DOWN TO A. DO I NEED A SPECIAL MODEL?
No, just choose the X-tender which most closely matches your tuners.

Tremsetter Installation Instructions
What exactly does the Tremsetter do?
The Tremsetter installs on your tremolo guitar in the back cavity where the springs are. When you put the cover plate back on your guitar you will never even know the Tremsetter is there doing it's job. The Tremsetter automatically brings your guitar back to its "zero" or starting position. Ordinarily, your tremolo relies on the your string tension pulling against the springs in the back of your guitar. Its a delicate balance similar to the way a teeter totter works. If one side is just a little out of balance, your guitar will be out of tune. The Tremsetter overrides this precarious balancing situation and brings your tremolo back to the exact "in-tune" position.
How does the Tremsetter work, Can I still push down and pull back on my tremolo to raise and lower my stings?
Yes. The Tremsetter works very similar to a double hinged door; i.e., the door can swing both ways, but comes to rest in the center position. When you let go or your tremolo arm after you have raised or lowered your strings, the Tremsetter automatically returns your tremolo to it's "zero" position.
Does the Tremsetter work on Floyd Rose equipped guitars?
Yes, the Tremsetter will work on just about any style of fulcrum tremolo including Fender, Wilkinson, Kahler, and Ibanez.
How does the Tremsetter improve the tone of my guitar?
The Tremsetter stabilizes your tremolo and eliminates that annoying flutter. The flutter or warbling sound is really your string energy being absorbed by your tremolo springs. The Tremsetter lightly holds your tremolo in position so that your string's energy goes through your pickups and out your amp, not into your tremolo springs. You should immediately hear a dramatic improvement in your guitar's attack, volume, and sustain.
How does the Tremsetter keep my guitar in tune when I bend strings?
The Tremsetter stabilizes your tremolo to minimize "tremolo sag". "Tremolo sag" is what you experience when you bend a string, increasing the string pressure causing your tremolo to rock or sag forward. This puts your adjacent strings out of tune. This is especially annoying when you are trying to play country or blues style double stop bends. Also, when your tremolo sags forward, you have to bend farther to raise the pitch of your strings.
How will my guitar play different with the Tremsetter installed?
You will immediately notice that your strings feel tighter and less rubbery. The string tension of a tremolo guitar in large part is determined by the tremolo springs located in the back of the guitar. When you bend your strings what you are really feeling are the springs stretching out. Once the Tremsetter is installed, your tremolo will be stabilized and you will feel the true string tension. The Tremsetter will give you all the advantages of a fixed bridge guitar while maintaining the versatility of a full floating tremolo instrument.
